Stuart Younse is the Director of Theatre at Simsbury High School and the former Artistic Director of the Connecticut Children’s Chorus in the Community Division at the Hartt School, University of Hartford. Most recently, Dr. Younse also served as Director of Choirs at Simsbury but is now focusing mostly on theatre. Dr. Younse was instrumental in forming a partnership between the Hartt School and Simsbury High School where junior choral music education study choral methods in the high school classroom working with high school students. This practical approach to the training of new teachers has been both beneficial to the Hartt students as well as the high school students. Dr. Younse received his Bachelors and Doctorate in Music Education from the University of North Texas and his Masters in Vocal Pedagogy from the Texas Woman’s University where he studied with Joan Wall. Choirs under Dr. Younse’s direction have performed for the Texas Music Educators Association, the Eastern Division of the National Association of Music Educators (MENC), the Eastern Division of the American Organization of Kodály Educators, and at the National OAKE conference in Springfield, MA.. Younse’s choirs have sung throughout the United States and Europe. Since coming to Connecticut in 2001, Younse has served as guest director of the CT Northern Region High School Honor Choir, the CT Northern and Western Region Middle School Honor Choirs, the Rhode Island Junior All State Choir, and the Southern Massachusetts Educators Association Middle School Honor Choir. Dr. Younse was named the 2008 Connecticut Outstanding High School Music Educator by the Connecticut Music Educators Association, the 2011 Connecticut Choir Director of the Year by the Connecticut Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and the 2012-2013 Simsbury Teacher of the Year.
